TR4/4A Tan convertible top on a TR4

Ok, I have had my 63 TR4 paint dark blue (jaguar pacific blue) and will be installing a tan interior from Heritage Trim. I have two questions. Firstly, Black or tan top? I can not find any photos on the net showing a TR4 with a tan top. Second, dark blue or tan carpet? Remember I will be installing a tan interior; seats and panels. What does everyone think? This is going to be a driver not a show car. Although, it's going to look fantastic.

.............Cheers, Alex

Hi Alex,

Cool! Glad to hear someone is getting so close to getting their car back on the road!

I personally like a contrasting interior color, so would likely go with a matching tan carpet. Original was a medium grey, but don't let that influence you.

The top is another question... you might search for Miata and others with tan tops over blue paint. I'm not sure if I'd like that, but it's your car, your preferences and your choice... A black top with blue paint would be a lot of dark colors. I guess the ideal solution is to keep the top stowed all the time and go topless! How about a tan tonneau?

Cheers and congratulations on reaching this point in your project!

My TR250 left the factory Triumph Racing Green with Black Trim and Top.

In my dreams, this car is Triumph Racing Green, with a tan interior, green carpet, and a tan top. Tan over blue is grogeous, just look at many recent XK8s. I would go with the blue for the carpet. A really light carpet color will show all kinds of dirt. Basically, except for the color, I dream the same way you are thinking.....

I think a tan top would look fine... particuarly with the tan interior. I would also go with tan carpet.

I had tan carpet (with tan interior & blue paint) on my eye-talian sports car -- that carpet showed wear and dirt from the get-go. Yes, you can use floormats but the problem areas I'm thinking of are tranny tunnel & kick panels.

Have 25-year-old black carpet in the TR3A and it still looks good. For carpet, IMO, darker is better.
