VERY good ones when cruising across the northern plain states enroute from Seattle to Chicago during the dog days of August with the hard top on. One miserable, HOT trip.

yeah, the bidding from the same account all on the same day sure looks fishy. i may write the seller and see if he knows this bidder, get him to commit one way or the other.

Not to change the subject, what make me mad is when they jack up the shipping cost ON TOP OF the item you just paid for. I know shipping and handling charges aren't cheap, but come on. Shipping an under 2 pound package Priority mail cost you $3.95, not $5.65. Shipping boxes are free. He may not be charging much, but don't try to sneak it in. Tell me upfront. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Wow thats pricey. I think we have a couple of those in the back room at work. I need to put those on ebay, and then I can retire. As for the shipping price, I have found ebays shipping calculator to be wildly inaccurate. Last week after some of our auctions ended, a guy from CA won a AH dimmer switch, less than a pound boxed and ready to go. The shipping calculator said the shipping was going to be $3.50, it wound up costing $1.35. Another instance was an MGb top bow we also sold last week that the calculator said shipping was going to be $95.40, actual shipping turned out to be $12.35. I am always going to the post office to get what the actual shipping cost of things for people. I guess the moral of the story is if you don't want to get ripped off by the shipping calculator ask the seller to get what the actual shipping will be from the post office.

Hey! I hear yah!

I just received a service manual in the mail today. The eBay seller insisted on UPSing it and charged me over $13. I do enough eBay sales and shipping to know that was jacked up charges for a small 3 lb. box!

Worse, up to 5 lbs of books can go USPS Media Mail for just $3!

I tried to communicate with the seller about the shipping quote, but never got any response. I finally just paid it and moved on. The final price of the manual was good, so I'm not really complaining.

Watch out for those shipping charges! If they don't quote it up front, I *usually* won't bid until I've gotten a quote.

Oh, and, for some reason, my automatic email notifications received from eBay have suddenly started showing up in either French or German! I've sent them a "Que pasa?" email and am awaiting a response... in English, I hope.

Caio!

I lost the bid on a tr3 hardtop, bid out in the last few seconds. About a week later the seller contacted me because the winning bidder dropped out. My bid was $125. He wanted over $600 to ship it to me.

Needless to say, I dropped too, but then he gave me a nasty feedback.

I asked the seller about the curious bidding history. He responded very quickly with a sensible theory. The bidder is new to ebay and bid the auction up a couple of bucks at a time until he reached the next highest reserve bid. The seller also disclaimed any relation to the crazy bidder. I'll buy that explaination, but not the light bar...too expensive.

Alan, I agree! I wonder where these shipping 'calculators' originate. I just purchased a shop manual for the MKIII Spitfie from an eBay seller and the UPS Ground shipping quote was over $10. I wonder is someone hasn't hacked the software. That is a little steep for a book that weighs about 3 lbs.

Dugger,

Actually I could see UPS charging that much... or rather going through a 3rd party store, like "The UPS Store". They really put you through the coals when it comes to shipping rates.
