Tale of a tiller. part 2

got the Jeep exhaust fixed, got the trailer registered, decided between storms today to get out to my parents house and till up the garden with my borrowed, now fixed, tiller.
Sooooo.. GOt out there, and it fired on the first pull. I was happy. got about a third of the garden done and it was time for a break.
the curse continues... I tried to restart it. It fired a for a few seconds, then popped and actually spun backwards for a turn or 2. after which it felt funny (like it had a catch in it)once in a while trying to pull it. and wasen't even trying to restart. no spark.... Did some quickie inspection but found nothing.. the next rainstorm was just starting so I packed it in. SO now I gotta rip the engine apart to fing out what's going on in there. it still seems to have good compression, and seems to be spinning freely now. I diden't look at it tonight 'cause I'm angry with it. maybe tomorrow afternoon. I'll let ya all know what happened when I find it.
I truly believe this thing is cursed. It's been bad luck since I picked it up.
Jeesh!

Probably cheaper to rent now, but how does he taken a broken one back home?

Borrowing other peoples' stuff is verboten here. As is loaning out MY stuff. No 'bad blood' that way. There are two exceptions: Sibling and a friend of forty years.

It had been stored for a few years when I picked it up. Popped off the fuel tank and bowl, cleaned it out, gave it an oil change, and it came right to life just fine.
the drive home was disasterous. pouring rain, the exhaust fell off the leaky Jeep, making me tread very lightly through town with my unregistered trailer. then within 30 seconds of use one of the chains in the transmission of the tiller have out due to years of moisture inside the case. Made myself horribly sick using really old Kerosene to clean all the parts during the repair ( I was in a hurry and it was all I had on hand). $16 at Central Tractor got me the 10 feet of chain I needed ( I used about a foot of it)
All fixed, I tilled my garden just fine. Then I took it to my parents house...
I tore it apart today, The woodruff key for the flywheel had sheared off. Back to Central Tractor for the 50 cent key. But even though it tries to run it's still messed up. I had to epoxy one of the little metal plates back on the magnet of the flywheel, and I think it somehow contacted the coil. I'm gonna try checking the gap on the coil, if that dosen't work, I give up. It's cursed, and I am not meant to use it.
prior to this little event, this thing ran like a top.
