Did you ever want to toss all worries to the wind, and JUST DO SOMETHING????

Yeah...the last time that happened I got married... and it was indeed ....the last time....:wall: :jester: Honestly though, I lived like that for a LONG time, however; it now proves problematic. I don't mind my decisions effecting my life, it's how it effects her that bothers me. What you wantin' to do?

C'mon Tom, no judgement here...Are we talking about slipping on that pretty sun-dress, those high heel shoes and taking the Merc for a ride around town? Or something weird like planting beets :topsy_turvy:

Are we talking about a cross-country trip in an old Mercedes?

BINGO!

Car (and driver) in good condition. Trip is all planned; friends, former students and colleagues all waiting ...

But how do I get over the nagging worry that I'll hear a big BANG, followed by a sickening silence, while driving in the middle of nowhere.

what to do - what to do ...

Tom

I can relate, Tom, being the worry-wart that I am.

However, you have to ask yourself, "How will I feel if I DON'T make the trip?" Regret ain't no picnic.

Mickey

If the worst does happen, it will be a problem for a few days at best. You will eventually get home and so will the MB. That is if you still want it.
If you never start the trip that decision will nag you for the rest of your life.

Go for it.

Tom, bring out your adventurous side and do it! Take along the normal tool bag and a spare fuel filter, a set of spark plugs, dist cap, rotor and plug wires. Unless of course it's a diesel, then fuel filters. If you don't do it you'll always regret it. Take a list of members email/phone numbers on your route. If your going through desert country, take a jug of extra coolant for the car and a lot of water for your self! Enjoy the trip, the visits and the recalling old memories, a most rewarding experience! PJ

Okay enough with being polite! **** it Tom, DO IT! If you break down I can tell you for certain that you will meet the nicest folks and have experiences that you never dreamed of. I've broken down within 50 miles of my home and as a result have met some pretty nice folks. One fella stayed with me until the tow vehicle showed up, he then gave me a ride home and a bottle of wine as we started talking about "wine snobs" and he had just returned from shopping for some of his favorite wines (somewhat pricey). Did I say husband and I are pretty less than pretencious folk and live in a log home complete with 50's gas pumps in the living room. I of course invited him in and pulled a bottle of $2.00 Buck Chuck from my wine rack a/k/a a milk bottle crate. I asked what I could do for him and he replied "When your Healey is up and about please call me and if you would be so kind take me for a ride." I did call and I did take him for a ride. Did I also say he had an absolutely beautiful and relatively new Ferrarri? (sp?)

So Tom, get a wiggle on and just go for it. Cell phone and speed dial for your towing service is pretty much all you need. A sense of adventure will also be helpful.

As you Tom we don't have time, time has us and we best use while we have it.

Enough, I'm getting off my soap box...

P.S. Drats the boss didn't let me cuss albeit not a serious cuss. Remember if you get to my neck of the woods, you have lodging and it's free.

I think I am a few years behind you and can already say I have regrets about not doing something I really wanted to when I had the opportunity.
GO for IT and keep us posted.

Cheers and beers,
Irene

We're not seriously gonna have to have this conversation, right? ....seriously?

Just don't drive anywhere in the south. Yankee season doesn't end till first weekend in October.:jester: Actually, it's the banjos that you need to be concerned with....

 I think I woke Kelly with that one.

Tom, I didn't ask, but do you plan on traveling through Oklahoma? PJ

Not anymore, Billy bought a strat. Now it's the strats you need to be concerned with. :D

The route is on the first page of my blog (link below).

Might add some confidence if I could get some BCF members along the way to let me call them for mechanic recommendations - if needed. Mechanics who know things like carburetors, etc.

hmmmmm

i know Toronto is not on your route but if it were you would be welcome to call. BTW what is your worst case scenario? That would be flying home. Not so gruesome.
