Taj Garage complete at last!

After a year of imagining, planning, and construction, I got to move into the "Taj Garage" this weekend.

A couple of tips to pass on:

- You can never have too much light - I've got about 1,000W of fluorescent tubes installed, and its still not too bright.

- Two post car lifts are bloomin magic.

- Epoxy concrete floor paint is nasty to use, but works great.

- The radiant electric heat works just great too. I have 2x3,000W infer-red bars mounted on the walls, that heat up fast and make it toasty and warm.

You lucky dude!!

It sure beats the heck out of my 7' by 16'
work space.

And you constructed with wood and a heating system.
I haven't seen that type of construction in a mighty
long time. A heater?? My heater is to put on long
pants and socks.

Beautifully integrated into the surroundings. A nice
project you can be proud.

Thanks guys for the supportive comments. It pained me to write the checks at the time but now its done, am lovin it.

Was lucky to be working with a great architect and contractor (with all the horror stories you hear am grateful to have found a good team).

Tim asked about the lift -

Its an Eagle Lift "Global 9F" - i.e. made in China, rated for 9,000lb, and has a floor plate. As you may see from the photos I was space constrained, and this unit has the shortest posts. Even so, the posts ended up being 4" taller than the spec sheet said, so had to modify the base plate a little to move the posts closer together (it was that, or put a hole in the ceiling!).

The heat is actually the cheapest option available - a couple of infra-red electric bars mounted high on the wall. This works great! Just flick them on when you are working out there and instant warmth where you need it. A lot cheaper than heating the whole garage, and the heaters them selves are not expensive. Not sure why this type of setup is not used more. (Perhaps it is, I've never seen it though, except for taxi lines at the airport in winter).

As for the missus moving in - well there were rumblings!

But possession is (now) nine tenths of the law! (Or something like that).
 
We sell and operate infrared aircraft deicing systems, though ours probably have a few more BTUs than you need to heat the garage. This one kicks out 88 Million.
