my tail light bulb went out over the winter so I decided to check with some of the usual local suspects for a replacement. While I know Moss and Vicky Brit probably carry them, you'd think you could get something like that over the counter. According to my Advance Auto Parts store they can't even get it and O'Reilley's only has one in the system. It will be here tommorrow. A while back someone was reolacing his taillights with LEDs. Does anyone have a parts number and sourcing info for these?
 
Strange - just take the bulb to Advance - I get all mine over the counter!
 
Mine brake light went out this weekend in the MGB. I had one that matched in the garage left over from some car I don't even own anymore; but they were all Japanese.

Of course, the new bulb works fine in the MGB. I tested the bulb I took out; of course it is fine, too.
 
Yep. Bulbs is bulbs - take the old one with you. If they don't have it, go to someplace that does more than ADVERTISE that they sell car parts.

Should be just a standard 1156 for a single element, and an 1157 if the dual element. Osram bulbs are still available, and seem to work the best for me.

Though the 1156 (single filament) and 1157 (double filament) bulbs are slightly different than their European counterparts but they will work. The Lucas/Mazda bulbs are 21W and the American bulbs are 18W. I only bring this to attention because if you use 21W on one side and 18W on the other the turn signals may blink at a different rate or in my case not at all.

I don’t recall the actual part numbers for the LED bulbs. But I believe that they use the same PN listed above with a special designation at the end that identifies it as an LED array. Cost a little more but I swear by em.

Anyway a few years ago I picked these up at a local parts store.

The good news is they are “HIGHLY” visible day or night compared to standard bulbs. Also because LED arrays have low current draw they are ideal for vintage & classic car applications like our B’s where “current” is the enemy aging wiring.

Nothing wrong with making our LBCs more visible to our fellow commuters - I always say. Especially considering that the bulk of the vehicles on the road these days are SUV’s, Minivans and Trucks that would turn us into a grease spot in a heartbeat.

I'm using the same red LEDs for my brake/tail lights. I really like them too. Can't really beat them for power use vs brightness. They're not ~quite~ as bright as the tail lights that nearly ruin my night vision on some of these newer cars that I've been seeing, but they are certainly bright enough that who ever is behind me ~knows~ I'm on the brakes regardless of the time of day.

I found my set at the local AutoZone.
