BT is British Telecom ... not the most reliable of phone systems.

So ,what does it cost to call the UK. And the fact they are 8 hours ahead of me ,first thing in the morning deal.

Depends a lot on your long distance carrier. With Vonage (VoIP), it's free. But I don't think they switch between daylight savings and standard time on the same days we do, so there may be 2 or 3 weeks during the year when the difference is either 7 hours or 9 hours.
