Tahoe Fire

Country flag
Offline
The Healey is safe at a friends house. Fire was accross the street from us. Many lost homes (250 last count). We had about an hour to evacuate and a frined came and took the healey for me. Couldn't wait for the tools. We are not 100% sure if the house is still standing.
Will post again when I can.

My prayers are with you.

TH,

Was worried about you when I heard the news. Glad to hear you and your family are safe. Please stay that way and keeping fingers crossed that your house makes it through.

Cheers,
John

I am glad to hear you and your family are OK. I hope your house looks just like you left it when you see it again !
Good luck,
Ed

Hi Bob,
You might want to PM TH with your number and remove it from here. Anyone in the world can see it.

Hi, all. Via satillite imaging I can see our house is still in one piece. Not so for 7 others on out street on the other side of the main road. One of my neighbors who's house is on the next street over and is also a Big Healey owner and a forum member is also okay with his home. Another Healey owner (yea, there are several of us up here), closer to town and out of harms way, offered us a place to park the Healey and to stay at his house. What a great world of Healey people. We are staying at one of the casino, lake view (and fire with 200 foot flames) so we are okay until the weekend when the need to make money on this very expensive room. Hopefully we will be able to be home by then. The fire is still burning but movin away from us.
Thank you all for the wishes and prayer. They help if only knowing people care.
Good night all, I may actually sleep tonight.

From the newsmedia the fires look devasting. I don't how anything could survive. Our prayers are with you and your neighbors. I sincerley hope your house and others survive the smoke and fire and once again be able to enjoy the AH.

Good Luck, Johnny

We were just discussing (in the Pub) you folks up there in Tahoe and hoping for the best. Glad to hear that (so far) your home is still standing and hope you get to go back home soon. Will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
Basil

Hug each other and stay safe. Hope all works out for you.

The best news is that you and yours are ok. Great that you got the Healey out, hope the house comes through it ok. Take care,

I hope the fire clears out fast so that you can get back to your house! You have my best hopes, wishes and prayers.

Hi all and thanks. Went up today and they wouldn not let us in to see what is left of our neighborhood. Ther are stories of looters (sick people), but I connot believe that because we are a close community. There are over 1200 firefighters here. They are incredable! Hard working but always a smile for you. Todays paper showed the devistation and one photo showed a white Sunbeam Tiger that had a top coat of red fire retardant from the air attacks. Hey it was saved. There are many, many LBC us here. A friend lost a Boxter he has been restoring along with his house. He was so happy for our good fortune. If any one gets the LA times, there is a quote from my next door neighbor, Gerry Martin, about the fire. His wife grabed one change of clothes and pictures of their sons (one in Iraq) and split. We always had a plan in our head as to what to take and we were still short. I have an extensive slot machine collection from the thirties and before worth big bucks which we had loaded on a trailer. These we saved cause the can be quickly sold for cash if needed. The old oak wooden one from the 1800s was too heavy and would have been sacrificed. Apparently we are lucky.
Latest estimates are Thursday we may be able to inspect. But there is a prediction of 35 mph winds for Wednesday. The news makes it sound like a lot of Tahoe was hit but actually we are a small community in the forest 5 miles from the lake in the forest. Life is going on as always at the big lake.
Sorry for being so rambling but that is what people do in these situations. There are no one minute conversation up here anymore.
Thanks to all my friends on the forum.
Rich Kahn, aka Tahoe Healey

Good to hear from you, Rick.

Stay safe,
Mickey

Rich, you probably won't have internet access for awhile up there, but do your best to keep us posted as much as possible,

Basil

Thanks again. My neighbor and I snuck in to our homes (under cover underwear caper)today via forest trails. Everything is fine on our street. One hundred yards away they were not so lucky. Many of our friends have lost everything. CHP and cops just waved on out way back out. Becouse of my wife's work we are able to stay in a NICE luxury hotel room so its like a vacation except when we look out the windows. The latest is we will not be back into our homes till the first at the earliest.
We are counting our blessings and thanking out lucky stars.
We have been through this before with the San Fernando Valley earthquake in 94 living 3 miles from the center.
Hey, anyone want to trade luck?
This forum is helping me keep my sanity.
Thanks
Rich (TH)
