Tackle wipers or turn signals next?

OK - no rest for the wicked here. Need some turn signal action baby, I want to warn people before I dashingly cut them off in my roadster....(kidding)

But being able to use the wipers, even in SoCal, would be nice.

Any comments on which to go after first?

:iagree:
Ain't gonna be raining around here for a loong time; but turn signals are a must.

Now I know which I use most in Scotland, but I think I would rather the indicators were working. Rain-X does a great job!

if it turns out that it is the flasher unit, I've heard that the flasher unit in the passenger side foot well can be sourced at any local Napa. Yes?

Which car ? The TR6 used a 2-terminal flasher that is readily available; but the TR2-4 used a 3-terminal that is somewhat harder to come by. Many of the 3-terminal units listed for this application do not work correctly.

IMO the flasher is the least likely source of the problem anyway. I'd suggest jumpering across it (two parallel terminals for the TR2-4 unit) and getting everything else working (turn lamps should light solid with the jumper in place, making it easier to check voltages, etc.). Then if it quits working when you remove the jumper, replace the flasher.

A Tridon EL-13 will work with the TR2-4 circuit, but lacks the mounting tab. The case is also plastic and I found that, over time, it would crack and break from the pressure of the clip I used to mount it. I finally rewired the indicator lamp on my 3A, so the common 3-terminal thermal flasher would work.

Sorry Randall - this is for the 1974 TR6. So connect the inputs into the flasher unit and start testing from there?

OK - jumped unit and the lights turned on solid one side at a time when I flipped the turn signal indicator from left to right.

Sounds like it might be the flasher unit, no?

I can't say for a TR6, but whenever I had trouble with the flasher unit on my 1958 TR3A, I would manually click the flasher lever back and forth and the correct corner directional light would flash. It got me home safely several times. Also if this happened on the way to a concours event where the judges check that the lighting systems, as well as the flashers, you flick the lever as described above and because the judge is looking at the lights at all four corners of your car, he doesn't notice that you are clicking them manually yourself while you are sitting in the driver's seat.

In this case, I would set my priority with your wipers.

Yup, time to change it.
