The tack drive on the distributor must have caused those cuts in the gear; it is the only thing I can think could do it. The gear was loose inside the brass sleeve like there was a part missing at the end of gear in the housing; the bolt was in to hold the sleeve. The gear can slide back into the hosing about ½ inch and I guess cut down the side of the gear. I was going to try and fix it, but last time I tried to get one out that was stuck, I ended up using vise grips to get it out, not good. I found and extra one and the gear was sticky, but I was able to oil it up and hook the drive to a drill motor and turn it free.. Anyways this one has no extra movement in gear, good. I am afraid to take it apart because I could break it. Has anyone experienced anything like this and does anyone have a picture of how the insides of tack gear should be? I really did not hear any noise, but those cuts surprised me. I noticed it cleaning parts.
