Is a positive ground RVI tach ruined by reversing the polerity???
 
Polarity changed now but I was concerned that I might have damaged the original electronics by starting the car with negative ground. Discovered I had a converted tach in my parts hoard anyway so I fitted that one. Should be calibrated as well as polarity switched.
 
It should survive being hooked up backwards. I recently swapped one of these. Drill a hole in the case so it can be easily calibrated in the car.
 
Right Trevor. The hole would have been my next move but the one I fitted was easier. Bezel isn't quite as nice but close. Remembered the stashed one while converting the other.

They're close enough that I didn't think it was worth the bother. I might eventually refit the original since it looks like a new one while the one I fitted shows just a tad bit of being in the sun. Top of the jewel is a tiny bit faded while the original, as mentioned, looks like new. Car is a low mile survivor with an interesting history. I agonized over a engine and trans swap till I took a trip in my white midget. Opted for more power and a five speed since, though I like original, I'm afraid I just wouldn't drive it as much.
