can you and how do you rebuild a tachometer? anybody know someone in phoenix?

A mechanical tach is very similar to a speedometer. Anthony Rhodes wrote a 27 page PDF that outlines how to work on speedometers. You can use it to work you your mechanical tach.
https://triumph.daveola.com/NOTES/Speedo_Repair.pdf

If it is an electronic tach, they can also be worked on. There are several web sites that discuss the common component failures and what modern components to use in their place.

Also lots of places that will rebuild yours by mail order. Eg,

North Hollywood Speedometer & Clock Co.
6111 Lankershim Blvd.
North Hollywood, CA 91606
Phone 818-761-5136
Fax 818-761-4857

We're getting closer, but still no one in Phoenix.

I've had excellent luck with:
Foreign Speedo, Inc

San Diego, CA 92104
Talk to Bob or Preston at
619-298-5278

They do mail order & are very reasonable.
