Tach drive

Now that the fuel gauge is put to bed it's time for the next problem. The size of the hole in the tach drive gear appears to be about 1/8 square. It is NOT rounded out. The cable end seems to be "standard" ie; 1/16 square, more or less. Would a new cable have the larger end on it? Tach is free and the dist gear turns, existing cable is good but to small in regards the mating part. Bob

Hi BOB, I would think that the cable core end should match the hole in the drive gear.---Keoke??

Bob.
I would expect the round part of the cable to be around .150" diameter. The ends should measure around .120" square.

On the square part on the upper end with the round bearing on the cable, the square end should project beyond the housing flange no more than 1/4" to 3/8" maximum. If it is longer it can cause binding in the tachometer mechanism. This applies to the speedo cable also.

A correct cable should have the .120" square ends, but watch for too much cable projection on the upper end. It can be shortened with a high speed grinder if necessary.
