MGA Tach drive issue

I hope someone has already solved this so I don't have to reinvent the wheel: Tach doesn't work, but the instrument and cable are good (works when clamped into an electric drill.) Cable end is square, collar tightens easily by hand, and drive rotates while engine is running. But on close inspection, it appears the drive's square hole may be a bit wallowed out. I've considered fashioning some sort of sleeve for the cable end, perhaps heat shrink tubing. Has anyone ever dealt with this exact issue, and what did you do, short of spending &149 for a new drive?

On my Midget I had this with the speedometer. Went to a hobby store and bought a piece of square brass stock. IIRC it took a couple of tries but made it fit and Bob's your uncle
