I can't find my brake fluid anymore on the store shelves. Can I mix another brand 's Syn. with another?

Don,

I mixed the Synthetic from TRF with another brand that I bought locally and no problems so far (1,200 miles).

Thanks. Will bleed the brakes one more time and mount the wheels and then finally off the blocks.

What in the world is the matter with me?????????? (Please don't answer that!!!)

I should not be cruising the forum while at work.

You are correct. I do use SILICONE, NOT Synthetic.

I do apologize....apparently there is a difference between DOT 5 and DOT 5.1.

This is Synthetic:

And this is what I used along with the TRF supplied fluid:

So is Synthetic a decent choice? Was using Valvoline Syn. and couldn't find the same container so I bought Castrol Syn.
Did I do good????

Synthetic is fine IMO, as long as you change it every few years. And mixing Castrol with Valvoline should work, too.

But my personal preference is for DOT 5 Silicone (which is definitely not the same thing). Tough to find in stores (though my local Western Auto has it) but TRF has a good deal on quarts.

Is the silicon tough to get because of being out dated?
Is Syn. safe on paint as silicon?

Silicone has always been hard to find in stores (though better in recent years) -- I suppose because of having far fewer users. I expect most folks just use what was in the system when they got the car be it new or used.

I suspect synthetic eats paint -- simple enough to test that.

I, too, use only silicone 5.0 -- I think I saw it at Pep Boys not long ago but didn't need any and wasn't looking for that so I could be mistaken.
