Hello, listers, I'm a bit perplexed on the removal of this interior light switch on the center console of the TR6:

Can't figure out how this comes out. No center button on the bottom, like so many switches. All I can think is the black part unscrews, but it looks fully molded to the hexagonal center pull, and I hate to shatter it if it doesn't unscrew that way....

Any BTDT's? Thanks!
 
Just looked at a spare knob and it does not unscrew. There is a hole in the base for the locking pin that is on the shaft to go through. The hole is closer to the mushroom head and behind the "LIGHT RAYS" of the pictogram.
 
Thanks, Roman, I was all set to say, "not on my switch", but I took a 3rd look, and finally saw the locking pin.... of course, it's stuck! I've applied a blast of PB Blaster, hopefully to remove tomorrow. Thanks again for your expertise!
 
I have used PBlaster and pryed with a piece of wood to get some leverage on a stubborn knob. In an extreme case I used a wooden wedge between the base of the knob and the dash and tapped on it (once the button was pressed in) to force it forward.
 
On a friend's TR6, after soaking in PBB for a few days didn't help; I placed thin strips of wood on the panel on each side of the knob, and pried with a pair of pry bars (so the force was straight out, not to one side).

Was a bit worried that the switches might break first, but none of them did. From later examination, I concluded that the original plastic had shrunk and formed an extremely tight fit onto the hex shanks. We opened them up a bit before reinstalling.
