I got my new Lucas light switch for the TR6 and gave it 2 coats of semi-gloss lacquer yesterday in hopes that it will keep the white embossing from wearing off over time. It looks like it will work pretty good as it did not change the appearance at all. When my new knob set arrives, I plan on doing the same. Has anyone tried this method to keep the embossing on the switches and knobs better? I've read that the embossing on the after market knobs really wears fast.
 
Someone on this list recommended a white Crayon for my TR3; I tried it, and it works great! I must have done it a couple of years ago, and it hasn't faded, chipped, etc. With a beautiful 8 year-old, I have a never ending supply of Crayons, as well. One of these years, I'll get aroound to my 6's, as well....

Uh...originals weren't much better, I'm sorry to say. On these later switches, it's hardly embossing (or engraving, unlike TR3 knobs where there is a more noticeable recess to each letter and, therefore, something for the white to "sink" into)!

White acrylic paint (in tubes like Artists' oil paints) also works well. I tint it ever so slightly off-white so it look good-as-old rather than good-as-new.
 
The engraving whould be filled with a lacquer stick.

They're also used to fill the engraving in electrical controls, organ stop tabs, etc.

Buncha polishers. I keep my paintwork tidy, but the markings on my electrical switches are un-touched-up & worn. "CAN YOU SEE HOW LONG THOSE CLEAR HOOTER SWITCHES HAVE BEEN ON THERE?"
