Swaybar Heat treating

I'm making some swaybars using 4130, but wondered if anyone has knowledge of what bars should be heat treated to after bending?
 
You better talk to a local heat treater. You will need around 1600 degrees and then a oil bath big enough to quench the part without burning your garage down. Then you should reheat to a temper without going too hot. Not a easy job at home! :hammer:
 
Well if in Pennsylvania that might work. :laugh:

However, if you can find a shop with an induction heater it can be done in the blink of an eye.---Keoke
 
The question wasn't if it could be done, but the Heat Treat level. Fortunately for those with serious interests, with some further research I was able to find out Sway Bars are typically Heat Treated to H48 range for 4130. I sure don't know why anyone would think of doing it in their garage. There are plenty of qualified shops in my area & across the country to Heat Treat parts in a professional manor.
