Swapping Vent Windows from a '72 into a '68

I just found a set of quite nice vent windows from a '72 Midget that I want to swap into Bugsy my '68 Sprite. I do believe 68 through '74 at least all used the exact same Vent Window. Can someone please confirm?

Then to find some local Mowogs to help with the replacement. I know these are a bitch to replace and tricky to do. Last time I had the door panel off I looked up there and said I'll live with the rusty stainless this one is hard to do. Any tricks gents to doing it?

The entire door guts have to come out to do this one. So if you want to replace anything else on the door, this would be the time.

Yeah windows and all and there are sharp edges in there I do believe. Parts for this one will go on the shelf as a Winter Project.

Jim, I did mine on my '69 back when I first got my car (almost 10 years ago).
My originals had busted latches, a crack in one glass..and the weatherstrip was all gone. I found a pair off of eBay and installed them. It was tricky, but really not all that hard. The one thing that I had (and still have) a little problem with was the alignment of the new vent window frame with the windshield and door closure, after I installed the window to door rubber seal on the passenger side.
Either I didn't get the alignment right when I installed the vent assembly, or I didn't get the windshield back into the proper position, after pulling it all off for the paint and body work. The top of the vent glass would contact the windshield frame sooner than the rest of the door assembly, so the top would 'pooch' out a little..and the door alignment at the striker was a little narrow.

Does the window and regulator mechanism need to come out in order to get to the vent windows?

I don't think so. IIRC you take off the door panel and there is a bolt bottom left (as well as what holds it up top) it should slide out.

I think JP is correct, however I found that in order to get mine working properly and aligned I had to take everything out, clean and readjust. I even had to enlarge a few hole to get a bit of extra adjustment.

Guys this sounds more and more like a winter project for me. Bgsy will just need to live with ugly vent windows for another summer. I'm not going to pull the doors apart when I'm in the middle of a lake cottage remodel and 100% of spare time spent devoted to that until beginning of June. I need to be able to get out and drive Bugsy around town to blow off the stress and have some fun for myself. I think that's the right thing to do. Thanks everyone.

Jim, Sorry I got tied up for a couple of days and didn't get back on the forum to see your question.

As for removing the regulator... I didn't. There are bolts that hold things in that are located on the front part of the door near the door jam. As for time... it really didn't take all that much time. I goofed around and fiddled with things and still did mine in only a couple of hours(assuming I remember correctly!)

Thanks Larry,

Told newer vent wings are in the mail. This is one of the few parts Bugsy didn't have replaced. Yes I could have probably pulled the vent wings and did a major buffing job but they are the worst part on this car to still be restored. Now of course I'll want to do window rubber and as several threads going on right now a nasty job to do as well.
