Suspension...What the heck?

not sure what to think of this.
can anyone tell me why this would be like this other than it was a sub-assembly put together before it was put on the car?

also, can anyone tell me why it would be a bad idea to cut this bolt off and put the new one in from the other side after i replace the bushing?

thanks (75 spit 1500)

Since the "A" arm is coming off for new bushings, why not just unbolt the bracket from the frame (rather than cutting the bolt)? Certainly don't see why you can't pass it through from the other side when you re-install.

As Jay suggests, just un-do the nut on the back of the bracket on the frame and the assembly will come off in one piece. The bracket has a notch pressed into it for the head of the bolt to locate onto, so if you want to put the bolt back in from the other side you should turn the bracket around also.

That's what I did with mine, swapped the left for right sides, and put a grade 8 bolt in that was long enough that the shoulder came all the way through the bracket and stopped under the washer, then trimmed the threads just outside the fiber lock nut. Still a bit of a squeeze, but doable.

thanks for the responses guys,
i just thought it was strange that you would have to take the whole bracket off to change a bushing. seems like extra work for nothing...i guess i am trying to be logical with a car that isn't exactly...well....logical.

i didn't notice any kind of notch on the bracket to hold the bolt head. lots of road grime and paint on it soooo... may have missed it.

If you clean it up, you will see it. I can see it in the picture.
