Suspension question

I seem to remember that this question was asked rather recently but i didnt follow up to see the responses. Please indulge me with repeat answers or kindly point me in the right direction to find the original post.
In the restoration of my 67 tr4a, i replaced (almost everything)..i mean the springs (standard Moss replacements) and now find that when all put back together i have an unusually large gap between the top of tire and outer edge of the fender lip. Mine is almost 4 inches on all wheels. I seem to remember it typically is closer to 2 inches.
Do the springs need to be custom fitted or is there another solution to "riding high"

Many thanks in advance for your response

This is one thread on it:

https://www.britishcarforum.com/bcforum/u...ings#Post688398

After reading I put in one side with the "standard length" heavy springs and it looked goofy. Up 2-3" from the other side which is 2-2 1/2". Answered that question, took them right back out. As others have said the shorter springs with no spacers appears to be the way to go but I haven't gotten that far.

BOC, the problem with TR4A front coil springs is that two sizes were used.

Cars to CTC29984 used front springs with 9.75" free length and a top spacer.

Thereafter front springs were 11.1" free length/top spacer was removed.

Both used the same spring rate of 310 in. lb.

So perhaps you have the longer front springs still with the top spacers, which would account for the extra height.

Regards,

Viv.

All good info above, but be aware that the cars needs to be driven before you really focus on the ride height. Bouncing it around in place don't settle everything in.

If you haven't driven her yet, please do that and then see where your gaps are.

Keep us posted!

You know, that drives my wife crazy. When she is directing a meeting and people are doing email and stuff while she is doing her deal.
She has been known to remove devices from people

Agreed - I'm on a con call in the hotel room still.

Check out this thread as well where Tom had the same question.

TR4A ride height

My 2 cars with aged springs measured 2 1/2" to 3". I would definitely make sure you did not install the aluminaum spacer if you had it with the original short springs, but Tom's advice to drive the car is good as well.

Gents,
Thank you all for your comments, suggestions and links. I checked and the aluminium spacers are not present. So, I think the sensible first option is to hope some settling occurs and keep an eye on it over the coming months. Too bad driving season is over but i will have to wait until the spring to get more road time.
The snow is already starting to blanket the mountains here and its mandatory snow tires at all four corners or a hefty ticket is levied by the local gendarme if caught. Must get that done to my go to market car this weekend.

thanks again for your input

Hello Brett - if you get a break in the weather it will only take a quick ride around the block for her to settle to whatever height she'll be at.
