Suspension Paint

Well I am still in the process of taking out my front suspension to replace bushings, etc, when I have the time.
Since I will have it all apart I might as well paint what I can now. I was wondering if it should be painted flat or gloss black, or another color?
Also do I need to tape off all the holes, or will the bushings fit, and or function with a coat of paint?

All gloss black. Don't get paint in bushing holes if you can help it.
 
Except the shocks--they are natural metal with black arms.

Really? I always thought they were gold or entirely black? My MGA's have gold and I think it looks great....Been months since I've laid eyes on the B's so I have no idea what color they are. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif
 
Eric has a '71 MGB...don't think the shocks on them were anodized...all the ones I've ever seen were a steely grey w/black arms (even in Clausinger).
 
I've always thought MGA and early MGB were all silver. There isn't much functionality to be gained by painting aluminum suspension parts!
 
I painted the main body of the suspension gloss black and the lever shocks I wire brushed to a nice aluminium finish and clear coated them. Take a look at the attached picture.

I am starting on the rear end and suspension on my daughter's Migit. How did you get the rear end smooth for the paint? I am using a small sanding disk and wondering if there is a better way.

Cleaned, primed and painted.

I used a 4 inch copper wire wheel on an angle grinder. Takes anything off quickly and without any damage to the surface.
 
I think I will pressure wash and sandblast whatever I can and then go with the gloss black except the shocks. The shocks look dark but I think mostly from grime.
Starting to see all the rust problems I have being under the car a lot. But I was expecting more so I can't complain.
