T-Series Suspending work on the car for a while

Scheduled maintenance on three tractors, some fence to fix, one 15 foot pasture mower needs a new U joint and other stuff needs tending to. So, the cars being put on the back burner until these items are completed. Priority one, got to take care of the home front! :encouragement: PJ

I hear ya, Paul. I've not touched the GT in several months, due to our getting ready for retirement and the move to the new place. Both cars are here in the new place, tucked away in the garage. I may get back to work on the GT soon, but plenty of other stuff to do before that can happen.

Life does get ahead of us sometimes -- luckily the cars will wait patiently for us to resume work. Truth is they can wait more patiently than we can most of the time.

"Priorities."

BAH!!

But Doc, I forgot to mention the honey do list, which is included in the maintenance program! Plus, since she is a good cook and I like to eat, I'd sure be up a creek if she went on strike! :highly_amused: PJ

Bummer how real life interferes with important stuff like LBC restoration.

I was going great on the TD, expecting it to be finished in 8 or 9 months, then work interfered. The choice was between jobs that pay money and jobs that suck up money. Hmmm.... which to choose....?

It seems every body is getting hit with life right now. Putting fun carts on the back shelf always makes me feel like Im failing some how. Im glad its not just me.

Just got an estimate last evening on painting my car from our local custom shop. Show class paint job! Are you ready? $7,000! I almost fell over as I figured it wouldn't be over $5,000 and I thought I was figuring high. I've seen their work and extremely impressive. You could literately shave by looking into their paint job! That's primer, blocking, sealer, blocking, Urethane paint color, wet sanding, second color coat, buffing, clear coat, final buffing.
Am I crazy to do this or what? Or should I just check in to the local insane asylum to have my head examined? PJ

Highly subjective item, Paul. I'm assuming panels will be painted separately, then they will reassemble...? They're probably covering their fannies with the price, in case panels need extra tweaking. If this is going to be your pride and joy, then it's probably worth it.

No doubt about it, paint's expensive. Doesn't sound out of line for show quality. Consider the price of materials alone is about $1,000, then add in all the labor for blocking and sanding. I think the price of paint is one of the reasons "patina" cars have become so popular. I also think it's one of the reasons there are a lot of unfinished projects. People buy a car to fix up, do some work and start shopping for a paint job. Sticker shock ensues.

Their not re-assembling Mickey, I wouldn't allow that. Every nut and bolt, which are all new, will be put in by me to make sure the proper bolts and washers will be used and in their proper locations. The tub will be separate on a roll away stand and all the panels etc will be painted separately also. Still have some more work to do before the paint and the trip to the poor house! PJ

This is how I want it painted, only using XKE Jag Regency Red instead of Burgundy. 2nd pic, the Jag, is Regency Red. Close in color, but Regency Red supposedly, has no Brown in it. PJ

Paint work is pricey, no question about it. That price is inline with what I'm paying for Penny Bugeye's work.

If this is a special car for you, then have it done right. You've spent a bunch of time and work on this car, the top-quality work is worth it.

Well, I contracted the local paint shop to do the car @ $7000. He can't do it until the middle of September, he's that busy. He paints custom show cars and you would not believe the work put into them. His cars are beautiful and the craftsmanship is unbelievable. I'll deliver the tub and all the rest in bits and pieces to him when he's ready. PJ

I'm sure you won't regret it! The hard part will be the waiting!

Will you get "visitation rights"?

Will you get "visitation rights"?

I hope so Mickey! :highly_amused: He'll probably have it for a month. All his time won't be devoted to just my car. He has a few guys working for him who do the blocking, wet sanding and buffing under his supervision. He does a lot of muscle cars and their always on top of the winners list at shows. So what I'm trying to say is, I'll basically drop the stuff off to him and he can call me when it's done and I'm not worried a bit how it'll come out. The tub gets done first so I can put it back on the chassis and start putting the new upholstery and other bits in it. PJ

Looks like a you found a great shop with a guy who loves his job. Well done. Cant wait for the pictures.

Hope that month is really a month. Penny Bugeye has been in the shop since February or so -- admittedly for bodywork and paint, but the stay at the shop never seems to be as quick as advertised.

Drew, A long time ago I resigned myself never to bug/push a body shop! You certainly don't want them to give you a rush job. Make sure you post some pictures of it when you get it home. Love to see it. PJ

I'm with you there. I've been checking in on my car, but not to push things along, just to check in on it. The shop's been great to work with, so no complaints.

I've got a thread on the bodywork over on the Spridgets forum:
