Weewillie > Keep plugging away.....You'll get it
We'll stay tuned for anything that comes up, and provide cheering as needed.

Hap > Sounds like you're in a nice little hot spot for racing.
Back here just north of the steel city, we have all of those things except with me being a bit more rural, the travel time is more.

I am missing the following:
A dyno
A heat treating facility.
A good place to get 4340, 300M & other high teck stuff like carbon fiber
Also....We have gazillions of machine shops around here but, every one of em has screwed something of mine up once.
(I wouldn't trust them to change my oil, much less wedge & turn a crank)

Gonna have to send the bottom end to Prather on account of not trusting any of the bone heads here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

I do have a guy who is the best dang welder I have ever seen, in aluminum or steel!
(Just have to watch his rod choices sometimes)
Got a REM & Ceramic coating guy 2 min. away.
(I REM'ed my entire gearbox, rear end & some other stuff CHEAP)

Really great w/ stupid Pinto engines but wouldn't let em touch the Elva. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

is there any physical difference between a tamperproof and a non tamperproof carb other than the metal clip and I have 1 with the clip (which has been straightened) and 1 without. According to Haynes SU book the jet adjusting nut should be set at 2 turns on non tamperproof and 3 turns on tamperproof.

Run the jets up 'till they're "flush" with the shoulder of the guide and "stage" (the raised horizontal flat running parallel to the engine) and back the "non-tamperproof" one down 12 to 13 "flats" on the adjustment nut... then match that depth on the other one and spin it up.

If you fill the bowls with fuel, switch off and remove the covers where should the fuel levels be? Mine are about 2/3rds full. The car will start and then spit back through the carbs and quit. The choke is on and the throttle adjusting screws screwed down 2 1/4 turns. 2 turns and it won't start. After cranking for about 5 mins tonight (not continously) she wouldn't crank, the solenoid would click and nothing at the starter. Starter was cool, solenoid quite warm and the cable from the solenoid to the starter HOT. So quit for tonight and tomorrow is another day. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF

2/3 is about right as I remember, did you check the float adjustment?

You know I would bet it is the dizzy not adjusted correctly.

Fireing order, timeing?

Just to make sure, tomorrow, pull the plugs put a small bit of fuel in each cyl maybe a thimble full, replace plugs and wires and crank. If no go it has to be the timeing some place, 180 out??

floats are 1/8 gap (plastic floats) #1 cyl both valves closed on compression stroke, dizzy adjusted with test light coming on at tdc. think thats right I still think fuel

Sounds right from here. Try the fuel in the cyl trick.

will do am also working on the bleeding clutch

Ahh, the bleeding clutch. That's Brit talk you know.

Us Irish would normally say it a little differently but I don't think Basil would approve /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Grab-a "volunteer" an make a human carburetor outta em.

Arm them w/ 1 (or 2 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) squirt bottles full of your fav petrol.

BTW....Try not to catch your volunteer on fire.
(you might need a clutch-pumper later )

hard to get a volunteer around here, now maybe if i pay them,----- naw I keep a roof over their head that should be enough lol

Story Time.........

I pull into my friend, Cpt. Sparkle's driveway & see this tractor go by w/ nobody on it (8N)

So I floor it, slide to a stop, hop out & run up to it.
(He's got 3 little girls and this thing is heading straight for the house)

I run up to the thing and discover him laying across the tranny....Kinda limp looking.

Bloody heck I think.........so I let out a yelp........

He lifts his head and looks at me rather perplexed........He has a squirt gun in his hand and is "spritzing" his tractor back to the garage. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

think the solenoid is kaput?

I think the problem is in the distributor cap... or the plugs... no... the fuel pump... no wait... the air cleaners... going for a beer... brb...

Yes... the fuel filter

Naa....If she's clicking...Probably just low on electrons.

After a recharge you should be good ta go.

I know guys that use the squirt gun trick all the time.
If it doesn't try to run........Its ignition.
(just don't flood it)

"Judicious" spritzing...

<a metered response>
