Stats say that Wisconsin is the worst state for DUI's, with the Dakotas, Minnesota and the rest of the midwest also faring badly.

They missed the obviouis, that up here during our six months of winter THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO DO!!!! Driving to the bar and getting hammered is the sole activity for most people here.

Apparently Utah was the state with the lowest number of DUIs.

Don't forget that during those 6 months of winter there are MANY snowmobilers(sp?) who imbibe copiously. I believe those are included in those DUI stats?

It gets pretty scary up here in N.D. I was driving the Corvette to work last fall when I had to pull to the side of the road and stop. Some old duff in a rusty pick-up was weaving from shoulder to shoulder. I don't think the time of year has much to do with it.

I know why they drink and drive in north dakota. Its the only way to drive in an other than a strait line manner in this god forsaken state  This place does get interesting after last call or hockey and football games.

not because the beer is so weak you hit perpetual motion (drink a pint, pee a pint) before getting intoxicated then?
There is something in that -- beer you buy here in a Utah grocery store has a lower alcohol content. Mixed drinks you get in a bar are also made with metered amount of alcohol. Beer from a state liquor store is full strength... so I shop there.

The large population of non-drinkers does have an impact here, for certain. Still a few idiots out here, though. I play a lot of bar gigs, and see it all.

It always seems to be a choice of 3.2 beer that you can get anywhere including gas stations in utah or going to the state store and paying a fortue for the real stuff. Or bringing in your own and hoping you dont get caught.

Kills me that you can get beer at the gas stations in utah but if you want beer here you have to find a liquor store in nodak. Still beats finding your self in a dry county at the end of a hot day wanting a beer and finding out you have to drive 30 miles to the next county to buy a single beer.

Utah's liquor laws are a bit odd -- one of the ski resorts I gig at during the winter has a little card on the table for the out-of-town tourists explaining some of the issues. The looks on their faces as it is all explained can be priceless.

Might be the morman influence?

Could be...my best friend is Mormon and I know he doesn't drink at all.

That reminds me of the one about the Irishman and the Mormon sitting on a plane (was that in this humor forum?)!!
