Survey _ Under 40 and own an English Sports Car

1. How old are you?
36 this week.

2. What English sports car(s) do you own?
'60 TR3A, '65 Spitfire, '74 MGB

3. How many have you owned?
Ten, including the three I've got now.

4. When did you first learn about English sports cars?
Drove around in a friend's TR7 in high school.
a) Did they run in your family (Dad, uncle, etc)
Grandfather owned a TR3A, but I was unaware of that until after I'd become interested in the hobby.

5. Why an English Sports car?
Like the character, size, cheap entry point, easy of parts availability, easy of working on, but also happen to love all things British.

6. Did you consider any other classics for ownership?
Yes, bought an '85 Ferrari as well, and would love to own other Italian cars in the future. Also plan to get into antique American cars at some point as well.

7. Do you have any hobbies that also relate to old things? (old houses, music, etc?)
Not really, though I have other British interests (food, music, television, travel)

8. What do your friends think about English sports cars?
Well, that's got multiple answers. My English sports car friends (those I've met through the hobby) obviously love them. My Italian car friends tend to like them also, usually in a "I remember those, they were fun" sort of way. My non-car friends find them cute and eccentric but don't have a ton of interest in them.

9. What does the future hold? Will more younger people find these interesting?
As long as they remain inexpensive to purchase and operate, I think there's a timeless quality that will always attract young people.

10. Will you still be driving these when you retire?
You bet.

I think that he mean 40 years old before 11/10/07.
Am I correct?Just want to clarify this.

- Doug

Right - I mean if you are 41 you pretty much count. I am looking for people who couldn't possibly walk into a Triumph or MG dealer and buy one new in their life. Basically, Gen X and younger.

1. How old are you?

29

2. What English sports car(s) do you own?

Luego Locost (Lotus Seven clone)

3. How many have you owned?

3 - Triumph Spitfire, Reliant Scimitar GTE

4. When did you first learn about English sports cars?

At very young age - always loved cars and especially British ones. No real solid reason.

a) Did they run in your family (Dad, uncle, etc)

Nope family has a long history of dull cars

5. Why an English Sports car?

Dunno - just like 'em

6. Did you consider any other classics for ownership?

Yes

7. Do you have any hobbies that also relate to old things? (old houses, music, etc?)

Not really - do have an old house (1912)

8. What do your friends think about English sports cars?

Most think I'm nuts.

9. What does the future hold? Will more younger people find these interesting?

I hope so - I think Japanese cars of the 80s might well be the new LBCs for the younger folk.

10. Will you still be driving these when you retire?

I hope to be driving something interesting at least. Long way off so we'll see.

... Also, a car show director one year was adamant that the new MINI would not be eligible to exhibit at the show since it was actually made by a German company. ...
Did he say he wouldn’t allow a new Rolls (owned by BMW), Bentley (owned by VW), Jag (owned by Ford) or Aston Martin (owned by Ford at the time he was hassling you) in the show either? What a jerk.

He mentioned the MINI cause it came up in discussion. I can be just enough of a smark aleck that I'm surprised I didn't say anything about Rolls and Bentley, though the show didn't attract that kind of car typically. I did ask if I could exhibit my motorcycle. He, being fully aware that it is actually made in India and not the UK, said it would be ok.
