Well, we just celebrated 20 years of wedded bliss this week, and because I knew my wife liked going to the Stoneleigh Triumph Swap Meet for her birthday I thought I'd continue the trend. And since it was 20 years after all, I had to do something special - yep, got her a Surrey Top:

Aluminum center section, glass in good shape, needs seals and headliner. And since I kind of wanted one too I may fix it up for her without her even asking. Because that's the kind of guy I am!

You are a real sweetheart, Randy. That is actually a better gift than the air compressor I bought my wife for Christmas.

Bought my wife a cheapo cordless drill for Chritmas last year...you are too kind to her...

I bought my wife the Miata seats for "our" TR6. I am starting to see a pattern here.
Can't wait till next Christmas.

Sounds like the correct thing to do for someone from Surrey!
You can still buy the original material to re-line the headliner if you ever want to do it.
Enjoy

Frank-

Good point on living in Surrey, I should have used that as an excuse earlier. Actually I'm only here for two more months then back to Texas where my TRs are waiting.

I'm thinking of getting a headliner kit from John Skinner - if you know better sources over here please let me know.

Thanks!
Randy

You gottga appreciate a man who knows how to treat his
wife. I mean, a real giver. (Sigh)

Well congratulations to you on your anniversary, 34 years here. Hey, just ignore some of these replies, they are lucky or unlucky they are still married. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif You're wife is going to love the surrey, much less buffeting, run up the window when it gets a bit cool, open the scuttle and open the heat valve to make things a bit more comfortable. These are great little cars the surrey just makes them better. No kidding, Aluminum center? Mine is steel.

Hi Mark-

I see you are up late and logged on to BCF - I bet that is a pretty common thing for a lot of the forum members! (as I'm still waking up with my 2nd cup of coffee)

My wife has actually been great with my TR obsession, I guess we have a pretty good agreement in place - she doesn't question my car purchases, and I don't ask her about her equally big quilting hobby.

I'm very happy I found one, I missed out on a restored top sold by Bill Piggott over here and thought I was not going to bring one back. Then this one showed up and many dollars converted to pounds later it was mine.

It needs a full refurb but looks to be original and relatively unmolested. I confess given the price I was quite nervous after I picked it up and started wondering if it had glass or a plastic rear screen (its triplex thankfully), and the center section is much lighter and probably more fragile than I expected - the aluminum is very thin. Still, its going to be fun getting it on the car.

I should have guessed. I worked in Wiltshire for 2 years back in the early nineties. The pound was strong then also, but not over $2.00 Makes those auto jumbles kinda expensive. BTW, have you been kidded about your name? Our managing director was from the states and his name is Randy. Constantly a source of humour.

Cheers, Frank
