Surprising F1 News

Didn't see that coming, but I am not surprised.

Last year, BMW and Honda were really pushing for a North American Grand Prix, specifically United States since that's where their largest markets are. Even though both manufacturers performed poorly, I can't help but think that might be one of the reasons for their withdrawal.

I agree with you Shane. I am sure that money was the primary reason behind pulling out but the lack of races their largest markets combined with poor results must have swayed some decision makers that were on the fence about continuing. I hope Sauber can find a way to continue.

While I agree - it must be the money - It's strange how much has changed for them and so quickly. Last June they won North America's only GP. They came in third in the 2008 manufacturer's championship. Their driver, Robert Kubica, was third in the driver's championship. They had 11 podium finishes in an 18 race 2008 season. Wow.

:iagree: Keeping my fingers restrained is one of the more difficult things to do here.

BMW leaving is a great loss any way you look at it. Honda gone, now BMW. But, the sport will live on, I think.

Maybe Schumy's return will put a few more people in the F1 crowds???

I hope so. :yesnod:

Depends-if Schumacher's return is temporary, it'll be at best a temporary boost in ratings and ticket sales, even if he doesn't do well. It remains to be seen if the people who control F1 can parlay any renewed interest into continued success. Frankly, based on the lengths F1 has gone to alienate it's fans, I don't think that'll happen.
