Support for a growing forum

I nearly missed the new notice because I didn't notice the slight change in the print on the main page until this morning, but it seems we are now over 8,000 members and still growing strong.

Basil has made several options available to help support the rising costs of the forum(s) and I think that everyone should at least take a look at it and see what they can do to help a little.

This was always a touchy subject in the past and probably still is with some. I mean no disrespect to anyone, nor do I mean to be pushy, but this forum means a lot to me and to many more who visit here daily, I'm sure. It not only provides invaluable help 24/7/365, but it provides a nice place to visit with friendly and courteous people who all share the same interests and are respectful and kind to one another. If anyone has ever visited some of the muscle car forums, they would find anything BUT a civil tone to newbies or those with questions.

It would be a shame to see it ever get cut back or disappear due to lack of funding when we have 8,000 registered members, let alone those who visit a lot with being formally recognized.

I know that it's not for everyone, but I'm just trying to make those who can help aware, so that Basil isn't bearing the brunt of this cost alone.

Respectfully,

You know, Paul,

Wendy and I were having coffee together this morning and
discussing items in the morning's paper. I kinda complained
to Wendy about the apparent lack of $$ support for
Basil to maintain the BCF.

Wendy flipped the paper closed and looked at the cover page
for daily issue cost. $0.50 fifty cents a day.

A $ buck a month?? Get out the grease gun!!!!
That's a person so tight they squeak when they walk.
A cup of Starbucks costs more than a $buck.

Just my viewpoint. Folks who use the forum need
to pony up $$ to help keep it alive and kicking.

I think that the MG and Spridget guys are secretly trying to show us Triumph guys up....

After all, we ARE the most posted forum here on the BCF.

Another Triumph forum has a sub-forum that dedicated members may pay $20 per year to join. It's content is similar to our "Pub" forum here, only a little more personal since members are truly dedicated and loyal users. It's a wonderful way to get to know the most dedicated members better, and it's enjoyed by all.

Maybe that's an idea that's useful here. No one is compelled to join, it's totally voluntary. A minimum of $20 per year (or an appropriate sum as determined by the owners) to join the sub-forum.

I have a feeling that a significant number of our regular posters would join and pay the voluntary fee in a heartbeat. Some may choose to pay more than the minimum fee if they wish.

There are ways the sub-forum paying members can drum up support for others to pay and join in. We could mention how great the sub-forum is in other threads, etc.

Just an idea. Maybe not a bad way to attract revenue, and it's totally voluntary.

I hope this is helpful.

I've seen that on other forums as well. But I've noticed it tends to create an "us vs. them" mentality that makes it tough for newbies to feel fully welcome. Inevitably people start talking in the subscribed forum about non-subscribed member's posts in other forums, and it can get nasty and further help to alienate everybody but the 'in crowd'.

I agree with Jay. This forum works so well because of the format and to change it would probably hurt it.

Everyone just needs to realize that if we are going to grow or stay at this level of activity, that it is simply not fair to expect one man to absorb the expense of running this enterprise, when so many benefit daily from what he has given us for free for so long.

Let people contribute something based on their ability, but to simply ignore the facts of the expenses incurred by one and benefits derived by so many, would simply be wrong.

JMHO........

I agree with jujubee and Paul:

What's the cost of a daily newspaper?
We gladly pay that small sum.
