Superlites 15 x 6

Does anyone have 15 x 6 wheels on a TR3? I need to change my bent original rims for wheels that run true. The looks of the Superlites with the machined rim is really sweet, but they only come 6" wide no 5.5".

I had the same issue with my factory wheels not being true. I ended up putting the Moss Minilites on my car which are 15x5.5. The tires are 195/65 15's.

I am not sue I would go much wider. Remember you also have to consider the offset, not just the width. Do you know what the offset is on the superlites?

Here are some pictures of the wheels on the car, it is still on stands as I have not completed the interior yet.

Thanks for the kind comments! The garage is actually cleaner now that the transmission is back in. My wife makes me keep it clean :frown: Since she has 2 of the 5 spaces for her cars and I get 3 spaces that seems fair.

If it was up to me it would be a mess most of the time. The race deck tiles do make it much easier to keep clean.

WOW! Is that a 2 story storage unit with the loft option for storing parts :smile: That is a tight space to do a restore in, living where it is cheaper to live has it's advantages. I moved form South Florida where garage space was tight and they were also very small.
 
How do you like that wall heater? I have a 20k BTU one for my annex that I haven't installed yet.

That heater is a 20k BTU natural gas heater with a "very small blower". I found it for 1/2 off at Lowes on an end of season closeout for $109.00. It cost me more for the supply line material :smile:

I like the heater fine but the fan is very week in it. I ended up hanging a portable fan above the heater to blow the rising heat around the garage and that helped a lot.

I have about 1100 sqft of low ceiling garage space that is not insulated very well and it takes a long time for that heater to warm up the garage form 50 but once it hits 60 it works fine.

I should have bought the larger 30K BTU for the size space I have. Once the garage temp is fairly warm it will keep it stable with no problem.

I did not see the larger unit until mine was installed :frown:
 
Having limited workspace requires imagination and a certain efficiency in work flow. The car is in a frame off restore so I built a rolling dolly for the body tub which rides about 1-meter high. This allows the frame/engine to be rolled up underneath. Living in a big city is fun but my goal eventually is to have a spread of land with a "five" car garage!
 
I love the way those Minilites look. Shame that we went with the wire wheels and knockoffs on ours. Oh well... Maybe on the next one.

Me too, I have been lusting after a set for quite a while. Now that the car is becoming more and more drivable, ......
 
As I believe was mentioned before, it depends on the backspacing.

If the wheel's backspacing is incorrect, the tire will rub the frame (too much backspacing). If there's too little backspacing, you're changing your track width (pushing the tires further apart), and during cornering, can rub the upper fender on the tire.

I've seen pictures of race cars with 7 and 8 inch wide wheels, so I don't think your going to have any clearance problems with the sixes.

But, just to be safe, adding 1/4 inch to the backspacing of the 5.5 inch rims should center it up to where it "should" be.
 
My "minilites" are from Pack racing and they are on a slow boat from down under!! ARG :wall:
 
Those will work on a 3. There are a few race cars using them, some have had to roll the inner lip of the fenders to accomodate 205 tires. The back sacing is 3.58", which clears the upper a arms.
 
If you like the marriage of vintage and modern, you might like this mod I did for my TR4. I have KN Minators, but I think this may work for Superlites as well:

I had the spare wheel centers from some rusty hubcaps so this add was pretty cheap (~$25 all done).
