Supercharger tech question???

Well I know there are lots of knowledgeable folks here and I'm too lazy to hunt up the info myself so here go's.:eagerness:

First off I'm wondering how much boost a stock engine with 8.5 to 1 compression should have if it's to be a reliable street motor?

Second, if the engine is 1400cc [700cc per revolution] and I want to feed it with a supercharger that displaces 660cc per revolution what should the gear up be??

Again, just curious and not having studied up on this while I know some of you have!:encouragement:

Kurt.

Well, yes, it may require a different rear axle. Engine and trans would be Datsun.

General (and do mean all automotive, not LBC) rule of thumb is no more than 5psi of boost on a stock N/A motor. While in theory you can boost anything, a motor really should be built for it. I've forgotten more about the subject than I remember so that's about all I recall.

Thank's Billy....since a pretty big increase in power can be had I guess it makes sense to keep the boost down on stock engines.

Kurt.

I recently bought a Midget with a Moss supercharger kit. I've only had the car a couple of months, so I'm certainly no expert.

I've never seen more than 5 psi on the boost gauge. The Moss supercharger manual indicates a boost limit of 5-6 psi, though they offer a different pulley for greater boost.

How does it run?

Like a scalded dog. It comes on strong about 3500 rpm. I haven't taken it past 6000 rpm, though the rev limiter on the MSD box is set at 6500.

When I have time, I'll start another thread about the car. It's a pretty cool little hot rod.
