Supercharged Sprite on BaT

Marvel Mystery oil oilier for the supercharger, micro adjuster is on the top to lube the veins of the blower! Photo of one of two I use to own.

I'm a regular commenter on BaT (some may say too regular), particularly when it comes to Healeys large and small. The sale described it as a Moss supercharger, but BlueMax has tagged it as an obvious Judson with Marvel Mystery oiler. My take on this:

Some pretty gross errors in description here. Don’t know whether they are the seller’s or BaT’s. No Sprite or Midget ever left Abingdon with a wooden dash and even the sometimes lax BMC quality control wouldn’t have let one out the door like that. And as regor points out, unless Moss has a Wayback Machine to the Judson factory, they haven’t been selling that model for about 50 years. No signs of rust, which is great on a Spridget. Paint may be able to be saved with some spot repairs and blending. Without a test drive, I wouldn’t consider a Judson on a Spridget a plus. They seem to be pretty problematic and I’d prefer straight-up cam, head, and exhaust modifications for performance improvement over the Judson. Still and all, not a bad Sprite if you go in with your head up.

The car's overall condition is fairly reminiscent of what I started with on Baby Blue, sans the supercharger. This could be a fun "Fix as you go" project.

That is certainly a Judson rather than Moss supercharger. I had a Judson on a 190SL many years ago. And although it did make the car perform like it should have, I eventually removed it and would not have one again. It was much too noisy and the oiler was just "fiddly," requiring nearly constant adjustment. There are other far better options available today. I have to admit that it was fun listening to it suck air at times and it did add considerably to the torque.

Never too regular. I'm often commenting on Healeys (small) as well. Important to keep the faith.
