Supercar Sunday - Photos

Yesterday I went to a weekly car gathering near my house. Most of the cars that show up are modern Ferarris and Lambos, etc. But a few really interesting cars show up as well.

I didn't get photos of even half the cars that were there and missed shots of a few really neat ones. But here are a couple pages of snapshots you may enjoy.

Doc's gonna kill me, but Check out the Renault! cool. and an Isetta!
hehehehe How messed up am I? tons of supercars and I like the oddballs ....
I have a soft spot for LeCars, ant those hot rod rally varients (like in the photo) my parents had one when I was little (a 78) and I loved it.. Hey I diden't know any better. and it had a cool opening canvas roof.

There were some Model As that came through briefly. Also, note the REAL COBRA 427 RACE CAR!!! The guy was really nervous whenever anyone would get within a couple feet of it. I can't say I blame him. The car is really rare, really valuable and bodied in aluminum.

oh, At first I thought you were referring to the Silver and black Cobra.. I was gonna say, if he was pawning that one off as original, he was blowing smoke. That's a Superformance MKIII... A VERY nice car, but not an original. Then I saw the classic blue and white one..with the note on the window... NICE! and I can't dispute the claim. it sure looks the part.
Boy! those are all some good pics. Thanks.

I'd love to have a Renault R5 Turbo! That car would be a blast to drive...

Also a very nice Honda S600/S800 roadster that caught my eye...

A very fine selection of cars there, kicks butt on anything we have here, buat shan't complain...

I did get a chance recently to do an impromptu photoshoot of a Mercedes 300SL roadster though, so I shouldn't complain too much... https://www.flickr.com/photos/sherlock77/tags/300sl/

I guess authentic Cobras don't impress me that much anymore when this place is just down the road in Boulder. Shelby American Collection

I guess when you can go see GT40's, Daytona Coupes, a Wilment Coupe, several Cobras (289's and 427's) plus quite a few other Shelby American specific cars of note, and not a single fake among them, that you don't drool so much in their presence anymore.

This now reminds me that I need to send in my RSVP for their Holiday party. Don't know how many more of these Carrol will be able to attend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

@Swift6

Kill... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif I so want to be there at that party, instead just stuck up north... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yea, make that RSVP for 3 please!!
I've worked at a Superformance Dealer, so the whole Cobra "Taboo" has worn off on me.. But I still respect the cars, and especially the rarity of the originals. I only get to see them once a year when the Shelby American Collection brings a handful of them to Watkins for the vintage race.
I've heard stories both ways about Carroll Shelby, but I have to say It'd be an honer to see him in person (before heart #4 gives out)

I've been on their 'VIP' mailing from the first Holiday party. This year is their 10th. If I haven't gone I've usually at least sent a donation. Got on the list through a sign up sheet they had when they first opened. One of those right places, right time etc...

Met and talked one on one with Carrol quite a few times. He was chuffed that I asked him about LeMans with Roy Salvadori and the Aston Martin DBR1 whilst standing amongst his Cobra Legacy (the first 260, 289 and 427 are all rotate through this collection from Carrol's personal collection).

The rest of the list that I have met there is really rather staggering. The big names; Carrol, Phil Hill, Bob Bondurant, Pete Brock, Dan Gerber, Dave Freidman etc...etc... and I mean MET, not seen from across the room but actually shook hands and exchanged more than pleasantries. Makes for a really fun night once a year. I don't mind hob nobbing with the moneyed folk when the conversation is all about cars. My wallet can't keep up with theirs but my vocabulary can. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've heard that about Carrol too but he has always been in an amicable mood when I have seen him there.

Those cars that you see in Watkins are from this place in Boulder. The caretaker for most of the cars is a man named Bill Murray, no not that Bill Murray. If you see a 427 competing with the #98 in the meatball, that is Bill himself (most of the time). When I was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed I spotted the red Wilment Coupe and thought 'gee, that looks a lot like the one in Boulder'. Then as I got closer I saw that it had Colorado plates and then I saw Bill as well. Said hi and he recognized me! Really impressed the friends I was there with. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Green! absolutly Green with envy! shmoozin with the legends! I've met John Fitch (MG racing fame) but that's about it.

Swift6, Shucks that ain't nothin. I stood in the hanger they rented and watched Shelby and his boys put the first ones together.--Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hrumph! I've never met anyone famous /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif [green with envy] And nothing exciting happens in Calgary... Despite that I somehow still love it here though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Nice grouping of cars. I'm also a big fan of the Renault. I'd love a chance to drive one.

That's an R5 Turbo - comparing that to a LeCar is
like comparing a 6 cylinder Camaro to a Z28.
I'm blown away with the R5!

NICE gathering of cars! I'm still curious as to where the CSX Cobra my friend sold to Tony Hogg wound up.

I liked the three red Ferrari noses with that GM "pretender" in there. hehee.

And the VW bus. ...and the GTA, the Daytona, and... and... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I like local shows like this one where MGTD's are sittin' next to a VW microbus and a Ferrarri is next to a Camaro, next to a Fiat 600. We have a similar show about a mile from me every spring. We all get a kick out of seeing each others toys.
