Supercar Sunday 2-25-07

Despite the threat of rain, today was the biggest turnout I've seen. Hundreds of cars filling the entire complex. There were cars across the street because they couldn't find anywhere to park.

The show stopper for me today was a Jaguar XK racer. Simply beautiful! An honorable mention goes to the MG TD Special. It had a blown V6 engine, MGB front suspension (I think) and front cycle fenders that turn with the wheels. Very nice! Best presentation in my opinion was the classic Bentley with champaign and Hors D'oeuvres, complete with Grey Poupon. Most extravagant engine has got to go to a heavily modified Nova.

The British contingent was a bit weak as usual but not too shabby - perhaps 15-20 cars including MG, Mini, Lotus, Jaguar, Morgan, Triumph, Rolls Royce and Bentley. But the Prowler club must have made a showing because there were easily 20 of them.

Here are a few photos just to get a taste of the event. The full set of 150 photos (on 3 pages) is here: https://www.socalbritishmotoring.com/supercarsunday22507

Thanks Steve,
Some day I'll actually go there. I didn't know that many Prowlers were sold in the country, let alone the L.A. area. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

I do hope you are taking a stack of BCF cards to these events /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif (If not, click the BCF Cards link in the box on the left! )

I know what you mean, Greg. I've never seen more than two in one place at the same time. Personally I don't care for them but when you have 20-25 in one spot it's impressive. Think of how many cubic inches that is!

Basil, LOL! Always the business man! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I kind of don't like when these clubs show up with large numbers of the same car, you see one, you've seen them all. A few is kind of cool but that many is just taking up valuable space IMO

Do you happen to know who brought the Elan? I have been trying to find other Elan owners in the area and have never seen that car before

I think he's making the rounds at every show he can. He was handing out business cards to everyone. Even kids!

It started to drizzle a bit late in the morning, but thankfully it never actually rained.

Well, I was a bit stealthy, did not have the Lotus (which has the engine out at the moment). I went down there with a friend who brought his Suzuki Cappuccino

I think that GT-40 belongs to someone just down the hill from where I live. Nice pics Steve .. that Jag is too cool.

Cheers,
John

Normally I hate new cars painted up like old ones. But I've seen a couple GTs painted up like GT40s and I have to admit I like them!

That Jag so looks very much like the car that Janet Guthry (1st woman to race at Indy, for the youngsters in the crowd!) used to race in the SCCA meets back in the day (early to mid sixties) I ran into her a few times in the NE Region at the Glen, Bridgehampton, Limerock etc. What a class act!!

I agree - it's like seeing a row of new
Range Rovers,or Minis at a British car show.
I would rather see the old cars,& modified newercars
(like the Gulf Ford GT),especially if they're depriving
the old/unusual cars from being at an event like that.

Along those lines, as I pulled in someone I know shouted out "Good luck finding a parking spot!" He wasn't kidding. There were none. A guy in an SUV saw me driving by and offered his spot to me. He pulled out and parked elsewhere so I could park in the middle of it all. Gotta love that!
