Hi All,

I just joined the forum and thought I'd ask a question that seems to be trivial, but is turning out to be a real pain.

I am replacing the dash in our '67 3000, and for the life of me I can't get the temp gauge's capillary tube / plug out of the block! I really don't want to pull the radiator to gain leverage with a longer handled wrench, but I suppose I have to do what I have to do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif

Before doing so, any tricks to getting that plug loose with everything in place? Any special "home-made" wrenches I should try?

HI Schroeder,Welcome to the Forum. Try this ; take an old offset closed end box wrench cut a notch in it just wide enough to slip over the capilary tube. Shorten it if you have too and see if you can get it loose.---Fwiw--Keoke

Thanks Velox and Keoke! Those are great ideas / links that I'll bloody up my knuckles with next.

It's too bad they don't make a six pointed socket (in the correct size) like that of the tool you use to remove an 02 sensor, with the slot cut up side as in Velox's link. Hmmmm

Schroder, I took a deep well 6 point socket and milled a slot the entire length and it works great. Actually after using it I swapped it for a solenoid spring for my starter.
Guess I will have to make another when I need it. You may even find a socket with the hexed top as used on a sparkplug socket.Bob

I made some and offered them on ebay. There wasn't enough interest to make it worth my time. I have one I'd be happy to loan if you're interested. email me with your details and I'll send it out.

In my hand is Snap-On S6155 3/8" Drive. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

As a side note, those Moss dash peices are VERY nice and well worth the time and effort. The glove box side takes a bit to drill all the holes into, but the quality of the product seems to be top notch. We'll see what the next 40 years does to them although. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

I'll submit some pic's when all is said and done if anyone's interested?

I'd be really interested in seeing pics of the dash replacement. My dash veneer is lifting and cracked. It doesn't seem to bother anyone but me, but I'm anxious to do something about it. I've been looking at everything that fastens the dash, etc., and considering what else might be replaced with the wood
