Suddenly the leisurely drive home - shattered by a scream

So Mary and I were driving home from Church earlier, having made a brief stop at the transfer station (dump) to drop of some recycle we had in the back. About 3 miles from home, we were relaxing and listening to the 70's station on Sirius XM, when all of the sudden wife is screaming her lungs out! To say I was startled would be an understatement. I was not understanding anything she was saying as I was scanning my mirrors to see if perhaps a meteor was about to strike our car or something similar.

What had caused her to spontaneously scream like she was in a Hitchcock film? Well, a mouse had somehow gotten into the car and at that moment decided to take a stroll across her shoulder!

Of course I pulled over at the first opportunity and we both bailed from the car. At that point I looked under the passenger seat and sure enough, there was Mr Mouse cowering in the corner. At this point we were about 2 milers from home so did the only thing we could do - we got back in the car to continue the drive home, hoping the mouse would be scared enough to stay under the seat till we made it home. No such luck. We made it about another mile down the road when the little vermin decided to take a trip across her lap! Repeat the procedure as before, and the mouse was once again under the passenger seat.

We finally made it home and I grabbed a flat sticky trap and put a blob of peanut butter in the center and placed it in the passenger side floor area. About 10 minutes later I went to check and sure enough, I got him!

Nothing like an unexpected blood curtailing scream to get your heart beating!

Man that is funny now but surely not funny at the time. I can just imagine what you were thinking at that first scream. WOW!

Yikes! I suppose it makes me a bad person that all I can think of is the mouse eating the upholstery on that shiny new vehicle.

Similar experience with a cicada driving into Kentucky in June. Somehow one got into my car during a stop to see my brother in Cincinnati. It suddenly decided to land on my partner’s thigh. Of course this woman had grown up in Texas and knew they can’t bite but that meant nothing at the time. Lots of screaming! Unfortunately our bug didn’t get to live out its full short life. It died a horrible death under a pile on napkins.

A couple of years ago I read a story of a guy who took a ride in a glider. Passenger up front, pilot in the rear. Soon after takeoff the passenger saw a snake up under the pedals. It had slithered into the plane to get out of the heat of the sun. The pilot said he just had to concentrate and “fly the plane” while the passenger was scared ecoli-less

That's right out of Raiders of the Lost Ark

Looked under the hood of our old Accord and found a pile of little shells on the V6 manifold. Some rodent had a feast up there.
