Hi All

Today i was out in my Landy which has a Rover 3.5L V8 lump. I lost most of the power and could not get over 30mph. After investigation i had fuel running out of the float overflow pipe on me left carb (i have 2 on this engine). So obviously i had lost one half of the engine. Does anyone have any ideas of what could be the cause? I am a novice with anything to do with engines soplease be gentle.

Could i be right in thinking the float maybe stuck? The engine starts ok then goes lumpy after a few seconds and then fuel starts to run out of the hose.

Mark, the needle and seat may be stuck, give it a good rap with a good size wrench near the bottom corners you can wrack it. a 5/8 or 3/4 should be the size, not a hammer, unless you have a tack hammer.
If that's not it, drop the float bowl and push the float up to make sure it's cutting off the gas.

The winter isn't gentle on these older carbs. Get some carb cleaner spray and check the float needle seats. If not familiar with these carbs or uneasy to try, look around your neighborhood or area nearby for an old British car and ask for help. If all else fails get on-line and find the nearest Rover club and send an SOS, these guys love helping as the will want to see you Rover.
 
Cheers boys i am having a look at the weekend. luckally when i brought the truck it had a spar old engin with a set of carbs on. I am going to use them as a bit of practice before i go to town on the good ones.
