SU Fuel pumps

For various reasons, I have accumulated two or three SU fuel pumps for my BJ8 which have little or no use on them, and either didn't pump fuel when installed, or operated for only a brief time. They generally were bought in advance of use, then when installed found not to operate, and past the date when they could be easily returned to the vendor. I suspect that they probably don't need a lot of work to get them operational again, but am not sure exactly where to start. Does anyone have a link or reference for a monograph on the troubleshooting and repair of the venerable SU fuel pump ?
By the way, I have ordered an all-plastic non-SU replacement from Victoria British, and will report on how it performs when installed.

Just peel of the SU tape, take off the cap, clean the points with some contact cleaner, and pump away!
