SU Carbs - How many flats?

I was wondering how many "flats" folks typically find they have to lower the mixture nut by on their TR3 SU H-6 carbs to get them to run properly. Also, am I correct that to lean out the carbs you need to <span style="text-decoration: underline">raise</span> the nut by turning it clockwise? Thank you.

As viewed (or imagined) from above, turning the nut...

<span style="font-weight: bold">L</span>eft is <span style="font-weight: bold">L</span>eaner

<span style="font-weight: bold">R</span>ight is <span style="font-weight: bold">R</span>icher

Not sure on how far out -- maybe 2.5 turns?

Thank you. I was inclined to view it from the bottom looking up not looking down from the top. So basically if the nut was all the way up it would be fully lean and all the way down fully rich. This coincides with the TR3 service manual (Fuel System, p. 24) which says that the mixture is "weakened off by screwing up the jet adjusting nut" and "enriched by unscrewing the jet adjusting nut."

Thanks,
Art
