TR2/3/3A SU carb stuck dampener stuck in hole

Well the dampener rod is caught somehow in the piston. The only thing I can think of is the little keeper became unhooked and is somehow trapping the rod. Maybe the spring somehow got caught in the piston. the piston slides on the rod about a 1/2 inch

I tried getting a tool inside through the hole where the oil goes, but because the rod only moves about a ½ inch there is no way to get a tool in the hole to the bottom and push whatever is caught at the bottom out of the way.

Any ideas???? I hate to cut the rod

By rod, do you mean the needle that goes into the jet?

No I am referring to rod with the brass nut on top that goes into the dome on top. I cannot get the 2 to separate. the dampener rod unscrews from the aluminum dome, but stops pulling out of the piston after a 1/4 of movement and cannot see what is holding it becuase it is stuck in the oil tube. I have never seen this before; it moves around freely and is not bent. I should take a picture

I'm afraid that's new to me too! I'll take a look at mine to see how it works...and try to come up with an idea...

There must something in there like a wedged little nut or something. Maybe I can try a knittening needle and bend that a little to get down into the hole

That is unusual considering the brass end is simple in design. What if the oil is not passing through the brass plunger at the end of the rod and it’s the negative pressure that prevents the damper from coming out?
Have you tried to turn everything upside down? Gravity and air pressure might help?

Yes it is weird, I have pulled and turn with my force. I could grab the rod with some dikes and lever it up maybe, but the carbs are new to me and very nice, so I need magic.

Did you get it out? That little keeper clip could be the problem. My only real advice is to be gentle. It's shocking what new carbs cost, and it's easy to mess something up.

I got it out after soaking in WD40 and pulling and twisting. I bought this stalled project and the carbs were part of the collection. Anyways what had happen is whatever they used in the dash pot had turned into some kind of glue

Maybe lift and drop the piston to be sure that rod isn't bent. They seem so delicate.

Glad you got it out. I could not see anything on mine that would cause them to stick...but I have experienced the "glue" affect with old oil!
