I've been thinking about replacing the current carb air intake system with three shining chrome pans attached directly to the carbs.

It'll look great, but will it work -- and what about removing the big "tub" air filter?
 
Curious if you ever proceeded with the idea....I am in process of installing velocity stacks on SU's. I hear it can greatly improve acceleration...keep me posted...likewise I'll let you know if the stacks help.
