I know that this has been discussed off and on in the past, but some of you may have noticed that the latest incarnation of the Toyota Camry bears more than a passing resemblance to BMW's finest, even down to the much-reviled "Bangle Bustle" at the back end. Anyone else spotted this? In addition, the Ford 500 looks like a clone of the previous-model Volkswagen Passat.

It seems that stylists have their own "themes" which they take with them when they change companies. Apparently this would explain the Ford's resemblance to the Passat, and ever since Subaru hired a designer who used to work for Alfa Romeo, their front-clip designs have taken on a disinctly Alfa-ish European look.

Everything is starting to look Japanese. Especially BMW. I've always loved their designs in the past but now I always mistake them for Mitsubishi.

Same here. I saw a newspaper ad for a Maserati something a couple weeks ago - the car looks like a Buick. They sure ain't your father's Maseratis any more..... sadly.

I don't know why anyone gets really upset over crashing one.

In 20 or so years they will all be in the breaker's yard anyway.

I saw one of the Buirati's at a party a few weeks ago. I went back into the gathering (300+ folks at this function) to find a racer friend of mine (owns a Z8!) and drug him out to look at the 'three-holer' ... we had a good chuckle and a smoke waiting to see if the proud owner would show. Missed him. Figure it was a lease vehicle.

That's why I love old cars. They look like themselves for the most part. I mean, what else looks like a bugeye, or an E type? And did anyone else notice that the new Subaru SUV has the face of the 2 stroke SAAB 93s? Cracks me up every time I see one. Saabaru!!

I have noticed that! It sure does look like an old Saab. I had a later Saab 96 two-stroke, and that car had more character than any number of modern cars put together.

Jerri lamented the other day that she's sad Mercedes has taken on the new "Japanese" look & didn't keep its classic lines.

I noticed that. The smaller Benzes look like Lexuses (Lexi?) and the larger Lexus models have been made to look like the bigger Mercedes.

At least, with the exception of the X-Type, Jaguars look like Jaguars. You can still instantly spot any Porsche model, they remain unique. Like 'em or loathe 'em, at least the newer Cadillacs are styled like no other as well.

All so boring and one of a same. There was a time when I could name and date pretty much every car on the road, at least to within a year or two. Now, well, I could care less.

I agree here...Everything looks the same now, with the expection of a few select brands. I know this sounds weird, but I like alot of the 80's styling...Not the big finned countach kinda stuff....but the more square cars, like the Monte Carlo SS, and Buick Grand National.

Agreed... A trip to the local New Car Show every March is getting to be mostly boring, and I almost wonder why I bother going, especially since we don't get many of the exotic stuff at our small city show

Jerri & I were looking at new Mercedes' the other day & she commented how she wished they had kept their classic styling...looks like she'll be beeping her '98 C280 for a couple more years!

About the only newer cars that stand out to me, are some of the more sporty vehicles... 350Z, last or latest model Celica, Mustang, the to be released Camaro, SSR, (although the last 3 there fit into retro design catagory). Most family sedans and luxury cars all look the same to me. Granted, Cadillac's edgey new designs stand out, but seem more suited to the 2 seater semi-exotic they make/made.
