In the shop today doing some work with the table saw and did something stupid. Now I have
8 stitches in 3 fingers and 1 broken finger.

I have been doing woodwork for over 10 years and this is the first time I had a serious accident.

Just a reminder, NEVER, NEVER let your guard down. maybe this thread will freshen other folk's mind
 
Yow! I don't work with a Table Saw very often, but when I do I approach it with a healthy does of paranoia!
 
I don't know about the rest of you but all of a sudden I have this erge to cross my legs real hard.
Been there to many times.
In my line of work I have had over 40 stitches in different fingers
 
Yikes. When I opened the thread 3 fingers caught my eye first. Bright side, could have been worse. I hate power tools and chain saws, that they make a lot of noise helps get them respect.

oooof, sorry to hear that. makes muscles cringe I didn't even know I had.
 
Sorry to hear indeed, no stitches here but an interesting scar or two. My father lost the end of his pinkie that way to the first knuckle, so, stitches beat the alternative.
 
Been there, done that. Cut pinkie from the tip to the second joint, ring finger to the first joint - gone, middle finger took half to the above the first joint, and got the tip of my index finger. No fun at all.

You're a lucky man.
 
Cabinet-maker neighbor is missing digits from a lack of sleep on a deadline project and a table saw... Blades are made to cut. They don't discriminate between materials. Respect the things. They will eat you if you don't.

If I ever do buy myself a table saw (and I'm currently hoping to), it'll definitely be a Sawstop.

There's a lot of controversy going on right now about forcing manufacturers to include automatic safety systems on all table saws. But I would absolutely choose it for myself.

OW OW OW! That is totally cringeworthy! I help a cabinet maker cut plywood sheets from time to time and I can't figure out how he doesn't lose fingers!
 
I made a similar mistake some years ago. Was trying to finish a rush project when I had a cold. Ripping 3 foot pieces of 2x4 and sneezed during one. End of thumb just knicked the blade for 4 or 5 stitches. Glad to hear yours is also repairable too without losing any digits.
