stupid plastic cooling system parts

Changed the thermostat on the nissan and the plastic thermostat cap wouldn't stop leaking so I took it off and found that it developed a hairline crack :nightmare: -- I am going to epoxy it from the inside to cover the crack but I think I need a new one since I won't really trust it not to suddenly fail. stupid plastic bits.
 
It's not only in the cooling system....

 
Same on our VW - and they all get brittle at once.
