Stupid Newbie Question

I know this is a stupid question but since I have never driven my car, or any MG, and the original shift knob is gone, I have to ask.

Can some please tell me the shifting pattern on a '76 MG Midget 1500 with the stock tranny? Thanks!

easy. 1 thru 4 are like any other manual box with an H pattern, with 1 starting at the upper left. Reverse is where 5th would be on a 5 speed, i.e. to the right of 3rd. You need to lift the gearshift in order to get into reverse.

1,2,3,4,? just kidding.. 1st is up and to the left, 2nd straight down, 3rd up to the right, and 4th straight down. reverse is pick up and the knob push right and up.

I had a spit for a while and thought R was there, but couldn't remember if there was a trick to engage it. Thanks, for bringing back that brain cell from way back in my skull.
