I went out of my way to find "the perfect paint" for my new floorboards, bought a marine enamel and put down 4 coats between the primer and the top coat. Nice. Till I applied a bead of 3M adhesive. The paint immediately bubbled off. The darn stuff that I applied is a single stage Alkyd enamel. Cannot take any kind of solvent (Toluene, Ketone, etc.). Tonight I am gonna take the entire paint job back down to metal. I ordered some POR15 a few minutes ago. I am so disgusted.

I don't want any advice....just pity.

That 22-year-old 5th of VO stashed in the closet is looking better and better. I keep it to remind me.

Yep! I hate rework. Seem to do it more than I want. Can really sympathize with you!

Bill,

Back away from the closet! It's just another one of those life experience tests that only happen to other people. Oh darn, that's advice.

Sorry to hear about your chemical reaction. I truly hate when that happens.

bill you're my hero. many of your projects are just steps ahead of mine and you've saved me so many times.

Bummer indeed but good for me.

Crypty would certainly have tried some
of those tricks when I replace his floorboards.

Anything that smells like it can getcha high will
probably bubble up Crypty's paint.

I'm gonna get me a gallon of Sears exterior latex
for Crypty.

You'll have paint stripping down to a science.

Bill ,what do you use for removal? I have some stuff the airplane people use. It will not only take the chrome off a trailer hitch but would probably dissolve the metal too. Boy is it hot!

Bill-

Not advice, but if you find yourself trying to use the VO as a floorboard solvent around two in the morning you might want to back away for a moment or two!

Similar thing happened to me with Eastwood's Chassis Black. When the directions say wait at least 7 days before recoat, they mean it. Any sooner and the paint bubbles off. What a mess to re-do.

Bill, I've had my bugeye 25 yrs, and I'm going through it the third time and I've never had to do anything twic. Uh twice. Whoops! When I installed my first 1275 and 5 speed conv. with my then 13 yr old you have issues with sliding the motor and tranny in and clearing the rail in front, We broke the seal of the timing gsket. Evan(my son), couldn't understand why it had to come out and we had to reinstall. Needless to say, another lesson the ole bugeye taught us'
