Stupid Electric Co.

Our local electric company (Flicker and Flash)
managed to lose a full 1/3 of the power grid for
about 12 to 14 hours last evening. 1 million+ folks
with no power.

We are well prepared for hurricanes but we both forgot
the Koi pond. The Mrs beautiful, 2 foot long beauties
were belly up dead this morning along with her prize goldfish.

If it had not been pitch black night, I'd have thought to
run the garden hose into the pond for O2.

Very sad to see all dead fish.

Now I really have a huge mess to deal with.

Dale, if you were in Louisiana, we would have a fish fry!

Sorry for your loss.

They really died after only 14 hours of no pump running?! I have 4 feeder goldfish (big suckers now) in a tank in my basement, no pump or nothing. It was supposed to hold them for the winter till the little backyard pond thawed. And it did just that for 2 years. I took the pond out 3 years ago......
THEY WON'T DIE!!!!

Couple years back this happened to us while we were on Vacation. Middle of heat wave and a huge part of the eastcoast went black. Killed our pond fish and a good friend of ours as well who had prize winning Koi - all dead.

Sorry to hear about your loss Tinster. :-(

Sorry to hear that Dale.

Wendy was pretty upset about it. The Koi were around
5 to 7 pounds each. I had two air pumps running 24/7
to keep them in O2. 800 gallon pond.

Neither of us thought to simply feed new oxygenated
water from the garden hose.

We think we will stick with goldfish now that we know
how huge Koi can grow.
