Stuff I've been working on with the 6...

Well, the past couple weeks, I've been a busy boy:

* I installed an electronic tach, converted by APT instruments... only it stopped working after 10 miles. APT fixed it no questions asked. It now works flawlessly.

* Performed my 1500 mile maintenance which consisted of changing the oil again and adjusting the valves.

* Had a muffler shop replace my sport exhaust mufflers with Borla stainless turbo mufflers and dual exhaust tips. I never really cared much for the way the sport exhaust mufflers hung and absolutely hated the single outlet pipes. Using the Ansa system as my inspiration I order the Borla mufflers and tips from Summit and had them fitted. The mufflers are small enough to sweetly tuck in between the differential and rear crossbeam, so I gain over 2" in clearance. Of course the coup de grâce of this setup is the quad outlets, it's not been 24 hours yet and I've had 4 people comment on them. How do they sound? In a word: wonderful. I loved the sport mufflers at full throttle, but it sounded a little "tractorish" at part throttle. It didn't sound bad mind you, but it wasn't what I expected. In contrast the Borlas are about the same volume, but the sound is deeper and more refined. Full throttle is so so musical. I plan to take some pics tomorrow.

Now.. does anybody want to buy a set of nearly perfect stainless steel sport exhaust mufflers? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Let's have some pic's Shannon.

Cool Shannon. I'd imagine the exhaust looks very cool. I certainly want to see pix!

Okidoke,

I took some pics today, let me know what you think. I can't emphasize enough how cool these mufflers sound. It's leaps and bounds above the sport exhaust.

Here is the modifications that the exhaust shop did. He managed to use piping off the sport exhaust to connect the mufflers up. I used stainless clamps to connect the pipes so I can remove the exhaust easily in the future.

Here are the mufflers, notice how nice they tuck up behind the diff and in front of the rear crossbeam:

Here is a side pic.. I must have gained 2 inches of ground clearance

Rear view, again notice the amount of clearance

Dual tips Woohoo!!

Hello Shannon,

just one little point, as you may need to remove the system later, as you say. I would replace those clamp bolts for something much shorter. It could save a bit of a struggle in the future, even if the fasteners are stainless.

Shannon,
Those tips look like something out of a James Bond film. Nice setup and I'm impressed with the superior fit you've accomplished.

This may be a moot point, but I hope you used anti-sieze on all the SS bolts - if you didn't they will be extremely hard to remove at a later date.
Good looking system, I have not seen one of these setups personally, and I am very curious as to the "notes" from the '6'.

I tried to make a recording of the old system on the road, but there was waaayy too much wind noise.

I'd love to make a recording of this new setup, does anyone know how to do this without spending any money?

Just a thought....

Many digital cameras have the capabiity of making a short duration MPG file with both audio and video and a quick drive-by would probably suffice. However, the accuracy of the audio/video file will entirely depend on the type (meaning $$$$) of the camera.

Shannon:

I've tried to PM you, but not possible. Could you send me the part numbers and supplier names for the exhaust system that you had installed? I have a great shop up here, if I can get the parts, I have them fab whatever else is needed.

Thanks in advance........Paul

Paul,

I have a hybrid system. The pipes in front of the axle is from TRF's sport exhaust and the rear section is a custom bend with Borla mufflers and Borla dual tips.

I'm actually taking off the rear section for good. I like the quality of the Borla tips, but I think the 3" quad tips is just a little too big for the back of the TR. I found a place in Florida that makes custom stainless exhaust pieces and had him fab 2 small mufflers with dual outlets and four 2"OD 10" tips. I think that should get the result that I'm after, plus allow the exhaust guy to angle up the quad tips in the back.

I'd like to see some pics on that when it's done. I'm going to show the pics from the Borlas to my guy and ask him to fab something similar to what you just described with the smaller tips.

Here 18 inch long muffer with dual 2" outlets and a 10" polished stainless tip:

Shannon, was that Stainless Specialties that made up your custom mufflers? They made the custom tips I used on my Falcon system. Yours looks really good! As you know the Falcon system really drags bottom. Bummer.
