TR2/3/3A Stub Axle removal

Hey guys
I know this topic has been covered before, but i have a problem with getting a stub out of a vertical link. ive tried pressing it in my 12 ton press and it wont budge...where to next ?

Bigger press...

Funny, but it's amazing the range in effort that some have gone to remove their stub axles. Some have got off easy with a simple whack from a BFH...others have used a 20 ton press.

The 59 I'm working on now didn't even have a nut holding the stub axle on...I wonder how many years the previous owner drove the car in this state? All I know is that the threads were very rusty.

Try loading it up in the press, then whacking on the side of the shaft to set up as much vibration as you can. I'd try at least a dozen blows before giving up.

I suspect that how you support the link in the press is important too. Use a collar or piece of pipe as close to the spindle as possible. Farther out will cause the link to flex and grip the spindle even tighter.
 
And be sure you have a way to catch it without doing damage when it comes out like a bullet. One of mine took a divot out of my cement floor.
 
thanks for the reply's everyone, ive tried the percussion whilst underload still no luck...off to find bigger press i go

There was another post where the poster used a sleeve and a nut on the threads to "pull" the axle. Pulling has advantages over pushing.
 
So Mike's idea. Good work with the search...I tried a couple and gave up!?! Anyway, the idea of pulling should work the easiest, and fashioning a sleeve from an odd section of pipe only takes a few minutes. I plan to try pulling next time...
 
Managed to pop it off last night in the 12 ton press + a few good hits with a hammer, consequently i have a new divot in the concrete in my workshop and i couldn't hear much for about two hours post separation. im guessing the other side will just fall out when i look at it.
