Stromberg Replacement?

I am trying to revive my 72 XKE V-12 after 25 years of storage. The strombergs are shot, I have a stock of SU's from various other British cars and was wondering if anyone has converted the V-12 to SU's?
Thanks - Rusty

First, I don't have a wonderful '72 V12 XKE; BUT, if your ZS's are shot, I think you mean the gasoline has dried in them and the rubber parts have turned to glue. Just rebuild them with rebuild kits. There is a carburetor cleaner that is so strong it comes in two liquid layers (the sealer floating on top of the cleaner) and the container has a basket suitable for dipping and soaking carb parts. Take the carb apart and soak them until the gum and other deposits can be cleaned and rebuild the carbs. Other wise, you will need matching SU carbs with the correct needles and jets. A real tuners challenge. Just my $0.02.

No I have not converted a V12 to SU's. However if you have enough of the HD8 SU carbs they are an excellent choice. Needle and tuning information can be down loaded from the Burlen UK Site..---Fwiw---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

The HD8 SUs are a good recommendation but you will also have to reengineer the linkeages and choke actuation. My guess is that that would be the hardest part of the installation. The engine compartment of the series 3 is crowded with not much room for redesign. Your ZSs are also good carburetors and usually can be made like new with the rebuild kit and parts that are available. I work on several series 3s with the Zenith quad arrangement and find that they stay tuned and serviceable for long intervals.
